Jaxon Steel is very sure that he does not know you, and is not quite so sure he wants to, especially if you are (a)Imperial, (b)a bounty hunter, (c)that person he swindled... that is to say, won a couple of hands at poker the night before or (d)a distressingly large dog with sharp teeth. If you are none of the above, and in fact, are (a)a merchant, (b)another pirate, or (c)love airships, he would be happy to buy you a drink.
Personal belongings and/or valuables that may go missing in the course of the night are, of course, not his fault at all. These port cities can be so very dangerous. Aren't you glad you've just found a friend?
-Profile-
Name: Jaxon Steel
Nickname/alias: The Pirate King (Self Appointed)
Age: 31
Apparent age: 25
Place of birth: Saabitar, a port town on the edge of deep desert, home to smugglers and pirates.
Place of residence: Airship, 'Next Horizon'
Gender: Male
Height: 5'9''
Eyes: Grey
Hair: Dark brown
Species: Walker
Race: Malakite
Class/occupation: Pirate
Family: No blood relations whom he cares to acknowledge, his crew is his effective family
Religion: None, Atheist
Education: Literate, barely.
Abilities: Passable shot with a rifle, average with a blade. Decent airship mechanic, good navigational skills, excellent sailor.
Metallurgy - able to mold metals to his will into items, obstacles, shapes. However, metals that are not part of his usual belongings are more resistant to his abilities, particularly if said metals have been mined and shaped more than five years ago.
Different metals also respond with varying sensitivity depending on the purpose he intends to use them for: e.g. precious metals are very resistant to being used as weaponry. He has the greatest affinity to three bars of steel that he keeps within the violin case he wears on his back.
Metals, especially those in Jaxon's possession, will also respond to his mood, rippling or vibrating under his touch or around him in response to strong emotions.
Strengths: Cunning (generally self serving), resourceful, streetwise
Weaknesses: Overriding sense of self-preservation, prone to bouts of cowardice, tendency to ignore things his mind refuses to accept, stubborn and singleminded
Habits: Chain-smoking, thievery, swearing, drinking
Hobbies: His airship
Likes: His airship and crew, nicotine, successful heists, people, his hat, cheesecake
Dislikes: Authorities, the ship's cat, making port, large dogs, light purple
-----
History: Jaxon usually doesn't enjoy discussing his past, and will often lie.
Jaxon was born in Saabitar to a hypersand-addicted prostitute and has never known his father. His early youth was spent doing odd chores around the brothel, dodging kicks from patrons and earning a little on the side helping out the port's airship mechanics. In doing so, he learned the basics of reading and writing, numbers, and, more importantly, how to operate and care for airships.
At fourteen Jaxon signed on as crew to a pirate ship as an onboard mechanic. Since then, he has changed crew several times, usually out of mishap with authorities or personality clashes with the crew, until finally stealing and outfitting an Imperial schooner. Including himself, the airship has collected five more or less steady crewmembers to date, the bare minimum for a ship of that size.
Personality: Jaxon is an opportunist, and is always on the lookout for the next mark. He is amoral and profit-focused, and is usually too lazy for altruism, but has been known to show occasional kindness where it is not to his inconvenience. He also very much dislikes killing, especially killing merchants - there's no point killing the sheep that one would be able to fleece come another year, after all.
Jaxon likes people in general, and therefore tends to be very friendly. He particularly enjoys the company of Arawnites, but is unable to explain it, passing it off as mere curiosity.
As a pirate, he is a free spirit, and does not like ties of any sort to the ground, making port only where necessary.
Appearance: Jaxon is most often seen wearing a battered gray top hat and dusty brown breeches tucked into cracked leather black boots. At his belt there is a pouch of tobacco, and a baldric over his usually bare chest holds a patched violin case at his back. Over his left shoulder is an eight-pronged tattoo, over his right a simple circle.
On his back are Orien symbols of a passage from the Book of Metals: 'And I drew the bones of the earth out to shape my bidding; it was in the first weapon that metal found purpose, the first jewelry that it knew pride; the first tool that it saw utility, the first instrument that it understood joy’
Additional notes: Jaxon has only a modest Imperial bounty, as he usually keeps his operations to the edges of deep desert, following the silk or spice trades, and makes it a point never to do any heists involving water. Profit, after all, is only useful insofar as it doesn't end up killing you. However, the size of the bounty, and the issue of his height, are touchy subjects.
